Welcome back!
In a recent seminar, we were discussing the relation between current macro/global trends against specific words. A pairing I focused on was the trend of Bloggers/Youtubers becoming increasingly more popular and the word 'Trust'.
I'll admit it, watching/reading the views of people such as Zoe Sugg and Tanya Burr is a definite guilty pleasure of mine, but I've learned to take certain opinions of theirs with a pinch of salt.
These people have evolved, becoming their own brand. Due to their success and daily views, they are approached by numerous companies to promote their products - being provided with a sum of money in return for giving viewers supposedly 'honest' opinions.
Now, although the majority of them make it very clear that they have been sponsored by whichever company they're discussing, some tend to slip up. I notice this mostly on Instagram, when people forget to put the hashtag 'ad' at the end of their captions. This, as I'm sure most of you will agree, comes across as very misleading.
Is she being sponsored or just very complimentary about the brand? Who knows! |
As a result, I always feel inclined to look at product reviews online from people like you and me, as I feel that there is no reason to sugarcoat or lie about how you really feel regarding a product.
What do you guys think? Do you trust Bloggers and Youtubers opinions when they're discussing sponsored brands?
Let me know in the comments!
